Top 5 Must-Do Activities at the Iconic Daly Waters Pub, NT
The NT is home to many hidden gems, but few are as iconic as the Daly Waters Pub. Established in 1930, this legendary outback watering hole is a bucket list stopover for anyone embarking on an Aussie road trip adventure. However, this historic spot isn’t just a pub; it’s a destination bursting with outback charm, quirky characters, fascinating history and very unique experiences.
If you’re travelling with your home on wheels the large campgrounds offer plenty of powered and unpowered sites, with access to water and the campground bathrooms and laundry. There’s also a large number of air conditioned self-contained rooms and cabins, including a handful that are pet friendly.

Our suggestion would be to stay and play for at least 2 nights to really take in the full ‘controlled chaos’ experience that makes Daly Waters so famous. With hundreds of travellers rolling in and out each day, the holiday vibes and tropical atmosphere ensure this is one location you will never forget!
1. Indulge in the famous Beef ‘n’ Barra BBQ dinner
No visit to Daly Waters Pub is complete without sampling their world renowned Beef ‘n’ Barra BBQ dinner. This mouthwatering feast offers a perfect blend of local flavours, combining tender beef and succulent barramundi grilled to perfection. Enjoy your meal under the starry outback sky while listening to live music and soaking in the welcoming atmosphere that makes this pub so special.
Pro Tip: Book your dinner sitting when checking in so you don’t miss out, then head down to Happy Hour early to snag a table and enjoy a cold drink while you wait for your delicious meal.
2. Enjoy a Refreshing Swim in the Tropical Pool
Head over to the original Qantas Hangar to learn the fascinating history of the region, then come back to the pub and cool off with a dip in the tropical pool. This little oasis offers a perfect respite from the Northern Territory heat, and is an ideal spot to unwind, relax and recharge before you set off on your next adventure.
Pro Tip: Visit the pool mid-morning between the flow of travellers leaving and arriving and enjoy it all to yourself… for a little while at least!
3. Explore Tim’s Junk Yard
One of the most quirky and fascinating attractions at Daly Waters Pub is Tim’s Junk Yard. This eclectic museum of outback memorabilia, vintage treasures, old cars, bikes, and other random items truly is a delight to explore. As the sign humorously says “over 30 years of spending my kid’s inheritance”… Tim Carter, Daly Water’s owner and publican, has brought together his incredible collection for visitors of the pub to enjoy. It’s a must-see for anyone with a love for nostalgia and vintage vehicles.
Pro Tip: Take your time and chat with Tim if you get the chance. His stories are as captivating as the collection itself!
4. Meet the Menagerie of Animals
From friendly goats to cheeky donkeys, the Daly Waters Pub is home to a delightful menagerie of free roaming animals. Chickens, ducks, horses, Brahman cattle and Texas long horns add even more charm to the already quirky atmosphere. The kids will especially love meeting the animals, and you just never know when one will wander into your campsite to say hello. There’s even a 2.2 meter saltwater crocodile called Snappy Kevin, with his interpretive signage announcing his diet of buffalo meat and the occasional naughty child! But thankfully he prefers his waterhole to wandering around the campground!
Pro Tip: Don’t want the friendly and very inquisitive donkey nibbling on your camp chairs or mat? Save a carrot or two as a delicious treat for when you get a visit at your campsite.

5. Leave Your Own Piece of Memorabilia
One of the most endearing traditions at Daly Waters Pub is leaving a piece of yourself behind. Whether it’s a signed hat, a quirky note, or a piece of clothing, adding your own bit of memorabilia to the pub’s collection is a wonderful way to mark your visit. This ritual not only adds a personal touch to your stay but also connects you to the countless adventurers who have come before you. From bras to knickers, currencies to ID’s, you will be entertained for hours looking around the inside of this iconic pub!
Keep your eye out for a Feel Good Family hat hanging somewhere in the ceiling of the pub!
Pro Tip: Bring something special from home that you’re willing to part with. Future visitors will enjoy discovering your unique contribution!
